The views from the terrace of this lovely old farmhouse were what made us want to be here and to let others share its rustic charm and privacy. There are places to come together to eat and laugh, but also space for privacy and relaxation.
The house is a detached ‘longere’ farmhouse and has a heated private pool (in ground, 8m x 4m, heated by solar panels, with sole use) with an auvent and barbecue area.
If you are celebrating something special, just let us know and we can make arrangements for your arrival – maybe a bottle of champagne.
A bright and airy kitchen/dining room leads onto a raised terrace with panoramic views of the rural countryside, where you can sit and relax. There are large areas of lawn and a selection of fruit trees, including apples (Pommeraie means “apple orchard”), cherries, fig, nectarines etc. Paper Mulberry trees provide just one of many places to sit in the shade and enjoy the view… and a hammock hidden away in the orchard. The house sleeps up to 10 guests in five bedrooms: one kingsize bed, one kingsize bed with en-suite shower room, one double bed and two with single/twin beds. (One pair of twin beds can be zipped together to make a further double bed.) – There are a travel cots & highchairs available on request if required.
The beautiful kitchen is at the heart of the house with a large farm house table, ample storage, a SMEG range cooker (induction hob), larder fridge with freezer and dishwasher and is very well equipped for cooking for all the family.
Amongst other kitchen appliances, there is a Tassimo coffee machine so you can enjoy coffee and croissant on the terrace. There is a separate laundry room with a washing machine and an additional freezer and a microwave.
There is a large sitting room with comfy sofas, Sky TV and access to the terrace – cool and airy in the heat of the summer and cosy by the woodburner on cooler spring and autumn evenings.
There is air-con or heating available in the rooms if required.
Maybe you would like a one-to-one yoga class under the trees? – we can arrange this.
A further reception room is set up with a smaller TV with DVD, table football, books and games. There is a family bathroom with bath, separate shower & electric towel rail. In addition there is a newly renovated shower room with an electric towel rail.
The farmhouse was originally renovated early in 2015 & in 2018 we completed relocation of the kitchen to the heart of the home, allowing for another bedroom with its en-suite facilities. This lovely French farmhouse gite has a welcoming warmth and lots of character, along with ample space for guests to relax.
We welcome enquiries, as we realise it is important to know as much as possible when planning a week or two in France. Please do drop us an email or give us a call if you need more information, a plan of the rooms, further details of the surrounding area. There are plenty of photos on this site, together with a couple of videos showing the unique location of this house and its pool.
The house is situated on the Charente/Dordogne border – a great base for visiting the surrounding region: Bordeaux to the south west, La Rochelle to the north west, Bergerac to the south and also Perigieux and the gorges near Sarlat to the south east.
Originally from deepest Devon, we brought up our family in Somerset and continue to live & work here. We stumbled across this old farmhouse in the spring of 2014 and we love to spend time there when we can. The warm stone and fields remind us of home, but the addition of sunflowers, sunshine
Over the last 10 years we have spent most summers in the Charente/Dordogne regions of France as a family. We came to love the climate, the relaxed way of life, the activities available for all of us and the people we met. We also found it was so easy to reach in just a few hours, so that even a week felt like a wonderful long break. After a couple of years of searching, the location of this house, along with its traditional features and lovely views, left us with no doubt it had what we were looking for. It was certainly in need of some TLC… but most old French properties do! So we set about renovating it and it is now a spacious gite, a simple and relaxing place to be.& an even slower pace of life, makes it a revitalising place to be.
For guests booking ferry crossings, we can help with discounts, as we hold a Brittany Ferries Owners Abroad membership. Just ask me for further details.
